REGINA — Canadian Blood Services along with provincial community partner, the Saskatchewan Roughriders, have created a first of its kind non-profit partnership for the 2010 Roughrider football season.

The Bleed Green Campaign, which was launched today at the new Roughrider player training facility, encourages both young and seasoned Rider fans to roll up their sleeves and donate blood during the 2010 football season.

All fans are encouraged to bring their game day ticket stub into any Canadian Blood Services donor clinic within Saskatchewan to win one of two autographed Roughrider jerseys.  In addition, fans who visit a clinic can enter to win the opportunity to be one of 25 chosen donors, volunteers and Canadian Blood Services employees to help carry the 100 foot Canadian flag onto Mosaic field at one of this season’s 10 Roughrider home games, in celebration of the Riders’ 100th Anniversary.

“This partnership really exemplifies what two non-profit organizations can do to benefit the community when they work together,” stated Jim Hopson, President & CEO of the Roughriders.  “I can’t think of a better celebration for our 100th Anniversary than be able to help save lives as a result of our fans’ commitment to donating blood.”

The Bleed Green Campaign was launched in an effort to increase blood donations during the summer season, a time when a decline in donations is seen often due to summer holidays and a change in normal routine.

“I encourage any fan over the age of 17 who has ever worn a Saskatchewan Roughriders jersey or has painted their face green to step forward and ‘bleed green’ for Canadian Blood Services,” stated Glenda Kolynchuk-Simpson, Manager, Donor Services, Canadian Blood Services.  “Because of just one fan’s donation, three lives can be improved or even saved.”
