Three in, three out as Esks make roster moves

EDMONTON — The Edmonton Eskimos have signed import wide receiver Marko Mitchell and also added non-import receiver Nate Binder and import linebacker Leon Joe to the practice roster. 
 
Mitchell was drafted by the Washington Redskins in the seventh round of the 2009 NFL Draft.  In his rookie campaign he recorded four receptions for 32 yards in 10 showings.  He was waived by Washington in May of 2010 and spent the pre-season with the Detroit Lions (waived on June 25) and the Minnesota Vikings.  In three pre-season games with the Vikings, the University of Nevada product recorded one catch for 71 yards and a touchdown.  He was released on August 31, 2010.
 
Joe dressed for two games with the Toronto Argonauts this season before his release on August 31st.  The Ohio native spent time with the Montreal Alouettes in 2009 dressing for one game.  Originally drafted by the Chicago Bears in the fourth round (112th overall) in the 2004 NFL Draft, the Maryland product spent five years in the NFL with various teams (Chicago Bears, Arizona Cardinals and Buffalo Bills).  In 36 career NFL games Joe recorded 43 defensive tackles (35 solo). 
 
A fourth round (24th overall) BC Lions selection in the 2010 CFL Canadian Draft, Binder spent two season at Tusculum College posting 1,569 receiving yards and 13 touchdowns on 85 receptions in just 22 games.  The Ontario native was released from the BC Lions on June 18th. 

The club also announced today that they have released import offensive tackle Calvin Armstrong, import wide receiver/returner Tremayne Kirkland and non-import wide receiver Kevin Wuthrich.
 
Armstrong started in 9 games this season.  He joined the Eskimos in 2008 as a free agent and started 17 games in his rookie campaign as well as the East Semi-Final and East Final.  Calvin started in all 18 games and the West Semi-Final in 2009.
 
In three games (one start) this season Kirkland recorded two receptions for two yards, five kickoff returns for 113 yards, three punt returns for 29 yards and one missed field goal return for 22 yards. 
 
Wuthrich spent all of 2009 and 2010 on the Eskimo practice roster.
