EDMONTON — The Edmonton  Eskimos continue to upgrade their pool of  Canadian talent with the signing of free agent defensive back Donovan Alexander, who spent the past two seasons with the Saskatchewan Roughriders.

Alexander played in 15 games (4 starts at cornerback) in 2010 finishing the regular season with 14 defensive tackles. He also dressed for the 2010 playoffs and Grey Cup.  He was originally a third round pick (23rd overall) by Montreal in the 2007 CFL Canadian Draft. The North Dakota product was traded to the ‘Riders in February 2009.  As a rookie in 2008, he played in four games with Montreal.

“Donovan has been a two year starting corner in this league and both Kavis Reed and I believe that at age 25 he has plenty of upside,” said Eskimos general manager Eric Tillman.”We expect that defensive coodinator Rich Stubler will bring out the best in Donovan and if so, he’s a potential ratio changer for us.”
