CALGARY — The Calgary Stampeders re-signed import defensive lineman DeVone Claybrooks on Tuesday.

He recorded 27 tackles, four sacks and two pass knockdowns last season and was named a West Division all-star for the first time in his CFL career.

“DeVone has great leadership skills and is highly regarded on our defence and in our locker-room,” general manager John Hufnagel said in a release. “He played at a high level last season, was recognized as a division all-star and we’re excited to have him back in the mix for this season.”

Claybrooks, a six-foot-three 300-pounder, was scheduled to become a free agent on Feb. 16.

He spent two seasons in Montreal before joining the Stampeders as a free agent in 2009.
