WINNIPEG — The Winnipeg Blue Bombers have signed non-import defensive end Shawn Mayne, the club announced today. He was released earlier in the day by the Montreal Alouettes.

Mayne returns to the Blue and Gold after spending the past season and a half with the Alouettes. Mayne originally joined the Blue Bombers in 2006, spending over three full seasons in Winnipeg and playing principally on special teams, as well as serving as a backup defensive lineman.

His best season statically came in 2008 when he recorded eight tackles, three special teams tackles and one sack.

The native of Montreal was chosen by the Hamilton Tiger-Cats in the third round, 18th overall, of the 2006 CFL Canadian Draft.

“Being able to add Canadian depth to our club is always important, and when you can bring in a player who is familiar with the surroundings and is the type of person Shawn is, it’s an added bonus,” said Vice-President and General Manager Joe Mack. “The Blue Bomber organization welcomes him back with open arms.”
