CALGARY — Calgary Stampeders head coach and general manager John Hufnagel is pleased to announce that non-import kicker Rene Paredes has signed with the club. As per team policy, terms of the agreement were not disclosed.

Meanwhile, non-import defensive lineman Shawn Mayne has been added to the practice roster.

Mayne was originally drafted in the third round (18th overall) by the Hamilton Tiger-Cats in the 2006 CFL Canadian Draft. He was a member of the Winnipeg Blue Bombers from 2006-09 before being traded to the Montreal Alouettes. Mayne was a member of the Als’ Grey Cup championship teams in 2009 and 2010. He has 18 career tackles, nine special-teams tackles and two sacks in his CFL career.

Paredes is a product of the Concordia Stingers and during his four-year university career he made good on 54 of 79 field-goal attempts. Paredes was among the top three field-goal kickers in Canadian university football twice. In 2007, Paredes led the CIS with a field-goal percentage of 88.2 — making 15 of 17 attempts — and was a Quebec league all-star.
