EDMONTON — The Edmonton Eskimos have signed free agent import quarterback Jeremiah Masoli, the club announced today.

Masoli was signed as an undrafted free agent by the San Francisco 49ers in 2011. He attended the 49ers camp before being released. Jeremiah spent the last three games in 2011 with the Omaha Nighthawks of the UFL where he passed for over 800 yards.

He played his college football at Oregon before transferring to Ole Miss in 2010. In his junior year at Oregon he led the Ducks to a Pac-10 Championship and a Rose Bowl appearance. His 2,815 yards of total offense in 2009, stands eighth on the school’s single season list.

After transferring to Ole Miss in 2010, he passed for 2039 yards and rushed 121 times for 544 yards and six touchdowns.

The California native passed for 4186 yards and 29 touchdowns during his final two seasons of college football at Oregon and Ole Miss. He also rushed for almost 2000 yards, including 29 rushing touchdowns after transferring from CCSF.

“Jeremiah’s skill set is ideal for the Canadian game, but it takes time and tremendous effort for young quarterbacks to develop.  He is blessed to have a superb role model on and off the field in Kerry Joseph, and if he embraces the same characteristics that have defined Kerry’s career, Jeremiah has a chance to eventually become a quality quarterback in our league,” said team GM Eric Tillman.
