TORONTO — Earlier this week, Canada’s Walk of Fame together with RBC Visa Infinite Avion and Shaw Media announced that Russ Jackson would be one of six 2012 inductees — inspiring and celebrated Canadians, who have excelled in their fields and are a part of Canada’s legacy. The others are musicians Randy Bachman and Sarah McLachlan, comedian Phil Hartman, ballet dancer Sonia Rodriguez and hockey’s Team Canada 1972.
CFL Commissioner Mark Cohon congratulated Jackson, saying, “On behalf of the Canadian Football League and our fans across the country, I want to congratulate Russ Jackson on the news he is to be inducted into Canada’s Walk of Fame. Mr. Jackson is a source of pride and a symbol of excellence for all of us who love the great game of Canadian football. The greatest Canadian quarterback ever, he was a tremendous success, winning three Grey Cup championships, the CFL’s Most Outstanding Player Award three times, and the CFL’s Most Outstanding Canadian Award three times. He is also an inspiring example of service to community, having dedicated his life after football to education, working as a teacher, vice-principal and principal in Ontario’s school system, instilling knowledge and leadership qualities in our youth. This latest honour comes in a year we are celebrating the 100th Grey Cup game – an appropriate time for Jackson to become the first CFL legend to be inducted in Canada’s Walk of Fame. Congratulations, Russ Jackson, and well done, Canada’s Walk of Fame.”
They will each receive their tribute on Saturday, September 22 at Toronto’s Ed Mirvish Theatre. The Canada’s Walk of Fame televised Awards will be broadcast nationally in October on Global.
