TORONTO — The Sun Life Grey Cup Fan March is back and it promises to be even bigger and better.

“This is your chance to carry the Grey Cup trophy to the 101st Grey Cup Championship Game at Mosaic Stadium in Regina,” said Mark Cohon, Commissioner of the Canadian Football League.

“When we held the first Sun Life Grey Cup Fan March at the 100th Grey Cup last year, we said we hoped to begin a new Canadian tradition. Well, our fans flocked to the event, people across the country cheered, and the entire sports industry took notice. So it’s back for another year, and we’re looking to fans in Saskatchewan to take the event to a new level.”

As part of the 101st Grey Cup Festival, the Sun Life Grey Cup Fan March will start at 1:30 p.m. CT on Grey Cup Sunday, November 24, in Victoria Park, across from the Hotel Saskatchewan.

Thanks to Sun Life, there will be lots of family fun: entertainment, face painting, mascots, prizes, special guests, and a brief ceremony to kick off the march.

Hosted by TSN’s Cabral “Cabbie” Richards, it will then wind its way through the streets of Regina, passing near several major hotels and City Hall before reaching the stadium and the pre-game celebrations.

“It was thrilling to watch last year as the march grew and thousands of fans joined in along the route, and we expect even more excitement this year,” said Mary De Paoli, Executive Vice President, Public and Corporate Affairs and Chief Marketing Officer, Sun Life Financial.

“This fun event perfectly captures what we love about the CFL: the fans belong to the league, the league belongs to the fans, and the Grey Cup belongs to all of us. This is where community and country come together in a very unique and special way, and Sun Life is proud to be a part of it.”

Ottawa resident Gregory Robertson, who has attended six Grey Cups and took part in last year’s march, is looking forward to being in Regina, where he hopes he’ll get another chance to carry the Grey Cup trophy.

“It was an amazing experience,” Roberson said. “Just the idea of being able to hold the same Cup that the best football players in the country held, and passing it on to other amazing fans from around the league, was one of the greatest moments of my life.”

“Our league has so much to be excited about as we move forward: new stadiums, the debut of the Ottawa REDBLACKS next year, a new television deal with TSN and RDS, and so much more,” Cohon said. “The Sun Life Grey Cup Fan March is all about acknowledging the people who really make this all possible: our great CFL fans.”
