CALGARY — Calgary Stampeders head coach and general manager John Hufnagel announced Friday that import receiver Joe West has signed a contract extension. As per team policy, terms of the agreement were not disclosed.
West made six regular-season starts for the Stamps in 2013 and recorded 19 catches for 277 yards and three touchdowns. He had three receptions for 101 yards and one touchdown in the Western Final against Saskatchewan. The 29-year-old Melbourne, Fla., native missed a total of 12 games because of a shoulder injury.
The University of Texas-El Paso alum joined the Stamps in 2012 and appeared in seven games, accumulating 24 catches for 353 yards and two touchdowns.
“Joe has shown the potential to be a very good CFL receiver in his relatively limited game action over the past two seasons,” said Hufnagel. “I believe he has the potential to be an important part of our receiving corps and I look forward to him having a healthy 2014 season.”
Prior to joining the Stamps, West spent time on the practice rosters of the National Football League’s Dallas Cowboys, New Orleans Saints and St. Louis Rams.
