EDMONTON — The Edmonton Eskimos announced the release of quarterback Kerry Joseph today.
“Kerry and I had several conversations throughout the week about the future direction of the club. At that time, he asked for and was granted a release,” said Esks GM Ed Hervey.
“Kerry is a consummate professional. We value his contributions to the team, on and off the field, and wish him the very best in his future endeavors,” he added.
During four years in Green and Gold (2010-13), Joseph completed 189-of-319 passes (59%) for 2,660 yards, 14 touchdowns and 13 interceptions. He also rushed for 384 yards on 84 carries with 13 touchdowns.
An 11-year CFL veteran, Joseph’s career stats include:
• 27,491 passing yards
• 144 touchdown passes
• 2,018-of-3,443 passes completed (59%) with 121 interceptions
• 687 carries for 4,548 rushing yards and 56 touchdowns
“I’d like to personally thank the organization, fans, my teammates and coaches for the opportunity to continue to play the game I love in a great city with great people. Everyone will truly be missed from the bottom of my heart,” says Joseph.
According to CFL.ca Edmonton Eskimos columnist Dave Campbell, Joseph requested his release to retire as a member of the Saskatchewan Roughriders, a team he carried to the 95th Grey Cup, winning Most Outstanding Player honours in the process.
