TORONTO — The Toronto Argonauts announced today that it has signed free agent non-import OL Scott Mitchell.  Mitchell was granted free agency at 12 noon ET today.

“Scott is a talented, young Canadian lineman who was a very good collegiate prospect coming out of a large U.S. football program. He now has three years of professional experience in our league and we look forward to seeing him develop with us in Toronto,” commented Argonauts General Manager Jim Barker,

A highly touted collegiate prospect, the Edmonton Eskimos made Mitchell the second overall pick in the 2011 CFL Draft. An Ottawa, Ontario native, he joins the Argonauts after spending the past three seasons with the Eskimos where he appeared in 16 games, including a start against Toronto in the Eastern Division Semi-Final in 2012.

“I have been to two Grey Cup games as a CFL fan and Toronto won both, in 2004 and 2012. While watching those games I experienced first-hand the passion of Argos fans. I’m excited for the opportunity to play in Toronto and to learn from the coaching staff, and couldn’t be happier to join an offensive line that blocks for Ricky Ray,” said Mitchell.

Mitchell spent four seasons at Rice University (2007-10) starting 38 consecutive games at both left and right tackle.
