REGINA — According to Sportsnet’s Arash Madani, the Saskatchewan Roughriders have added Canadian tailback Jerome Messam to their practice roster.

The news comes three weeks after Messam was released by the Alouettes following their first pre-season game agains the Tiger-Cats.

The Toronto native was acquired by the Als in a trade with the Eskimos prior to the 2013 season. In 13 appearances last season, Messam ran for 565 yards and a pair of touchdowns on 121 carries.

He also hauled in 31 passes for 317 yards.

In four CFL seasons, Messam has ran for 1,882 yards and 11 touchdowns, while also reeling in 71 passes for 698 yards.

The 2011 season was by far Messam’s best, as he ran for a career-high 1,057 yards and six touchdowns with the Eskimos, earning Most Outstanding Canadian honours in the process.
