Calgary Stampeders
Week 2 Ranking: 1
Fresh off a bye, and down three key players in Jon Cornish, Maurice Price and Nik Lewis, the well-rested Stampeders took it to the Argonauts at Rogers Centre on Saturday night. Bo Levi Mitchell continued to prove John Hufnagel right by naming him the starter prior to Week 1, as he out-dueled veteran Ricky Ray with a career-high four touchdown passes and 267 yards.
Edmonton Eskimos
Week 2 Ranking: 4
Chris Jones and the Eskimos move up two spots after handling the REDBLACKS on Friday Night Football. Everything seems to be going right for the Esks right now, highlighted by some stout defence, and a confident offence. Does the league have a new dynamic duo in Adarius Bowman and Mike Reilly? The two have connected for 284 yards and four touchdowns this season. The pair clearly has something great going.
Winnipeg Blue Bombers
Week 2 Ranking: 5
Winnipeg also shoots up a pair of spots after registering their first road win of the season in dramatic fashion over the Alouettes. Drew Willy continued to steal the hearts of the Bomber-faithful, orchestrating a late-game drive that ended with an 18-yard touchdown strike to Julian Feoli-Gudino with 28 seconds left in the game. The Bombers head back home to face the Eskimos in an early-season battle of the undefeated.
Saskatchewan Roughriders
Week 2 Ranking: 2
Is it time to panic in Saskatchewan? Hardly. Fortunately for the Riders, they’re headed into a much-needed bye week, where they’ll be given the opportunity to clear their heads and psyche in time for their second meeting in three weeks with the Argonauts at home.
Toronto Argonauts
Week 2 Ranking: 3
The Boatmen sink two spots following a second deflating defeat of the year. In their two losses, they’ve been outscored 79-36, so there is clearly some work to be done in Toronto. Ricky Ray was held without a touchdown pass in Week 3 for the first time since Week 2 of last season. This week, they travel to the Nation’s Capital, where they’ll be in tough against an Ottawa crowd that has been hungry for some football for quite some time.
BC Lions
Week 2 Ranking: 8
Are these the Lions we’ve been waiting for? Seemingly out of sorts throughout the first two weeks, BC stormed into Regina and played some inspired, determined football in a very hostile Mosaic Stadium environment. Kevin Glenn managed the game like he’s proven more-than-capable of doing while with Calgary, while tailback Andrew Harris erupted for 203 all-purpose yards and a touchdown. Next up: A visit from the Montreal Alouettes.
Montreal Alouettes
Week 2 Ranking: 6
The Als dropped a heartbreaker to the visiting Bombers on Friday Night Football, but have plenty of positives to build off of. Troy Smith continued to show signs of improvement under centre, while Brandon Whitaker was again the catalyst offensively. Chad Johnson showed signs of life, registering his first CFL touchdown, and celebrating in quite the affectionate way.
Hamilton Tiger-Cats
Week 2 Ranking: 7
Zach Collaros has been ruled out due to an injury, so Jeremiah Masoli will get the nod in Week 4 against Calgary. Expect a refreshed and hungry Tiger-Cats football team this week.
Ottawa REDBLACKS
Week 2 Ranking: 9
The REDBLACKS let another lead slip away, but they couldn’t be happier to be heading home to play in their home opener. A wild, raucous, football-starved Ottawa crowd is expected to be on hand at TD Place on Friday Nigh Football, and we couldn’t be more excited.
