VANCOUVER — Solomon Elimimian assured himself of at least one piece of hardware on Thursday night, earning the nod for Most Outstanding Defensive Player.

The 28-year-old was nominated for both this honour and Most Outstanding Player award, the second of which he’ll go for later tonight, after being the CFL’s most dominating and consistent defensive player in 2014.

This year, not only did Elimimian break the CFL’s all-time single season record for defensive tackles with 143, he also eclipsed the CFL total tackles mark with 151. The five-year veteran equaled his career-high of five sacks, originally set in the 2010 campaign. His three fumble recoveries set a new personal best.

Elimimian, a former Hawaii Rainbow Warrior, is also the first player in CFL history to record six games of 10 or more tackles in a single season.

Later on, he’ll have the opportunity to become the first player in league history to win three different CFL awards, after winning Most Outstanding Rookie in 2010 and then tonight’s Most Outstanding Defensive Player for the year 2014.
