REGINA — The Saskatchewan Roughriders announced they have released national offensive lineman Ben Heenan allowing him the opportunity to pursue National Football League interests.

Heenan was the first overall draft pick of the Riders in 2012 and was a critical piece of the offensive line that led Saskatchewan to a dominant rushing performance in the 101st Grey Cup.

Heenan and Riders general manager Brendan Taman will address the release in more detail when they meet with the media Tuesday afternoon.
