MONTREAL — The Montreal Alouettes announced on Thursday that the club has signed national running back Carl Volny to a one-year deal. The Montreal native was a free agent who last played for the Winnipeg Blue Bombers.

Volny (5’10”, 210 lbs.) played four seasons with the Bombers, cumulating 168 rushing yards on 41 carries and 56 receiving yards on eight catches. The 27 year-old also played on special teams where he made five tackles.

“Carl brings experience and depth to our offence at the running back position. As a national player he becomes a valuable commodity and has excelled at Special Teams. We welcome Carl to the Alouettes,” declared General Manager Jim Popp.

In his four seasons with the Central Michigan University Chippewas, Volny amassed 933 rushing yards on 210 carries while scoring eight touchdowns. He also caught 43 passes for gains of 374 yards while adding a major. Following his college career, he was drafted in the fifth round (32nd overall) by the Bombers in the 2011 CFL Canadian Draft.
