GUELPH — Veteran defensive back Jerald Brown has retired, the Toronto Argonauts announced Tuesday, ending a seven-year Canadian Football League career.
The 35-year-old joined the Argos as a free agent this off-season following seven years with the Alouettes, a span during which he earned three East Division All-Star nods and one league-wide honour.
In 102 career regular season games, 95 of which he started, the 5-foot-11, 185-pound native of Washington, D.C. has registered 279 defensive tackles, one special teams tackle, 18 interceptions, seven fumble recoveries and 19 pass knockdowns with the Als.
Brown helped the Alouettes to back-to-back Grey Cup Championships in 2009 and 2010. He then etched his name into the Alouettes record book in 2014, returning a fumble recovery 103 yards for a touchdown in the Alouettes Eastern Semi-Final win over the BC Lions.
Following his four year collegiate career at Glenville State, he had stints with the Arena Football League’s New York Dragons, Arizona Rattlers, Columbus Destroyers and Kansas City Brigade, and also spent training camp with the NFL’s Kansas City Chiefs in 2006.
