HAMILTON —  The Hamilton Tiger-Cats announced Thursday that Special Teams Coordinator and Linebackers Coach Jeff Reinebold has signed a contract extension that will see him serve in the same role with the team through the 2017 CFL Season.

Reinebold, 58, is in his fourth season with the Tiger-Cats after being named special teams coordinator on Feb. 5, 2013 and adding the role of linebackers coach in March 2014. The South Bend, Ind. native has over 30 years of coaching experience, including 12 years at the CFL level.

In 2015, the Tiger-Cats special teams units and linebacking corps had tremendous success under Reinebold’s tutelage at both the individual and team levels. Wide receiver and kick returner Brandon Banks was named the CFL’s Most Outstanding Special Teams Player, and linebacker Simoni Lawrence took home the East Division’s Most Outstanding Defensive Player honours.

Hamilton scored a league-high six touchdowns on special teams last season, including four punt return majors by Banks, and two additional touchdowns on a blocked punt and an onside punt recovery. Overall, the Tiger-Cats had six blocked kicks, while the rest of the league combined for just 12 in total. Banks also returned a missed single-point convert attempt for the first missed convert return score in the history of the CFL, and had two additional kick return touchdowns negated by penalties.

Prior to joining the Ticats, Reinebold served as Defensive Coordinator for the Montreal Alouettes in 2012. His coaching experience at the CFL level also includes various roles with the B.C. Lions (1991-93, 1996), Las Vegas Posse (1994), Edmonton Eskimos (1995), and a two-year stint as Head Coach of the Winnipeg Blue Bombers (1997-98).

The Ticats also announced Thursday they’re released international receiver Kealoha Pilares and offensive lineman Xavier Proctor and also added to the practice roster international offensive lineman Terrence Campbell and national linebacker Geoff Hughes.

The team also announced that receiver Terrence Toliver has been placed on the six-game injured list.
