‘The Waggle’ Extra: Austin reflects ahead of final Mosaic visit

Tiger-Cats Kent Austin walks the sidelines at Mosaic Stadium before the 101st Grey Cup in 2013.

TORONTO — He won a Grey Cup as a player and another one as a coach and he even has a parking lot named in his honour outside Mosaic Stadium in Regina. But Kent Austin will make his final stop to the storied park this Saturday as the head coach of the Hamilton Tiger-Cats.

Austin joined James Cybulski as a guest on ‘The Waggle’ this week and although he says his primary focus remains with the Tiger-Cats and their upcoming matchup in Riderville, there will be a sentimental side to returning to the place where he carved out his CFL roots.

“That community, that organization — that has a pretty strong place in our family’s life and our hearts because we had a lot of great memories there, a lot of great friendships,” said Austin. “It’s meant a lot to us.

“It’s a wonderful group of fans. They love and support the football team. They’re fully-invested. It’s a great atmosphere on game day and it certainly stands out in this league as being an environment we all should have.”
