Status Unknown: Collaros leaves game; ‘Cats await injury report

HAMILTON — More bad news for the Hamilton Tiger-Cats, as injuries to the club just keep piling up. This time, the injury bug has bitten their star pivot.

Collaros left Saturday afternoon’s matchup against the Calgary Stampeders at halftime and didn’t return.

There was no confirmation on how he suffered what the team is calling an “upper body injury” but it may have occurred after sustaining a second quarter hit by Charleston Hughes.

Tiger-Cats head coach Kent Austin addressed the injury after the game but was hesitant to speculate on the extent of the injury.

“We don’t know at this point.  It is an upper body injury and we will have to find out. Typically we know a little bit more tomorrow (Sunday) afternoon,” Austin told reporters.

Not only the extent but the type of injury is also unclear. When asked by a reporter if Collaros sustained a head injury, Austin said: “I don’t want to speak towards that right now because I just don’t have all of the details … if I open it up there will just be more questions and I am not qualified to speak on it right now.”

Before leaving the game, Collaros completed 16 of 22 for 120 yards and one interception.

Collaros spent almost the entire second half of the 2015 season and the first six games of this year recovering from surgery on his ACL.

Jeremiah Masoli entered the game in relief, putting up very similar numbers in the second half.  Masoli went 16 of 28 for 151 yards, no TDs and no interceptions in a 36-17 loss to the Stamps.
