OTTAWA — The Ottawa REDBLACKS have made a potential upgrade at linebacker, officially announcing on Tuesday the signing of free agent Khalil Bass.

Bass heads to the nation’s capital after two stellar seasons with the Bombers, which made him one of the top-ranked named to hit the free agent market.

The 26-year-old followed up his incredible rookie season with an excellent 2016. He collected 82 defensive tackles, three special teams tackles, four sacks, two interceptions, one touchdown and four forced fumbles in his second year with the Winnipeg Blue Bombers.

Bass finished 2015 with 102 defensive tackles, good for the team lead, and finished fifth in the CFL with 103 total tackles, the most ever by a first-year Blue Bomber. He also recorded five sacks, one interception and one major score in his first season in Winnipeg. That performance saw the linebacker take home the Bombers’ Most Outstanding Rookie award.

The REDBLACKS have since reportedly released linebacker Damaso Munoz, meaning Bass could fit in at weak side linebacker alongside starters Taylor Reed and Jerrell Gavins.
