EDMONTON — The Edmonton Eskimos have signed free agent defensive back Johnny Adams, the team announced Thursday.

The five-foot-11, Akron, Oh. native entered the league in 2015 with the Winnipeg Blue Bombers. In 23 games with the Bombers last season, he recorded 85 defensive tackles, five special teams tackles and seven interceptions, one returned for a touchdown.

Adams was traded to Hamilton in September of 2016, where he recorded 19 defensive tackles in the four games he played in the black and gold.

In the 27-year-old’s rookie CFL season in 2015, Adams was named a West Division All-Star after finishing tied for first in the league with six interceptions, one of which he returned for a touchdown on July 10 against the Montreal Alouettes. Adams also ranked fourth in the CFL with nine pass knockdowns, while tallying 64 defensive tackles in 18 games.
