Lions, Foucault agree to contract through 2019

VANCOUVER — The BC Lions have signed recently-acquired national offensive lineman David Foucault to a contract through 2019, the team announced Tuesday.

The Lions previously held Foucault’s rights but the former Montreal Alouettes draft pick had yet to sign a CFL contract.

Playing rights for Foucault, the fifth-overall selection in the 2014 CFL Draft and former Carolina Panther, were obtained by the Lions from the Als last month along with international offensive lineman Vincent Brown in exchange for o-lineman Jovan Olafioye.

“Getting David under contract is both a positive and vital first step toward having him compete for a spot on our roster this season,” said GM and Head Coach Wally Buono. “A longer term deal, as this one represents, is also a very encouraging sign that David is committed to our organization and we look forward to seeing him later this month at our mini-camp.”

Foucault was a top draft prospect heading into the 2014 CFL Draft but after signing with the NFL’s Panthers, he hasn’t landed north of the border until now.

The LaSalle, Que. native could play a key role on the Lions’ offensive line, whether that’s at the tackle spot formerly occupied by Olafioye or inside at guard.
