TMI: With the multi-talented Kevin Glenn

Some may call him the travelling man but Kevin Glenn’s friends call him Bob the Builder.

I’m serious.

Kevin likes to build stuff so his friends have dubbed him Bob the Builder. Maybe it should be Kevin the Builder..?

Either way, he refurbishes old furniture or old wood and makes it into something useful or decorative around his house. He was kind enough to show me a few of the things he’s built when I talked to him over Skype a few weeks ago and let me tell you, it’s all gorgeous. There was a wooden decorative ladder beside his fireplace and a beautiful coffee table in the middle of his living room.

Kevin has lived in so many different cities over his CFL career but there is one that sits above the rest and he’s also figured out where in Canada has the best food.

And you’ll never guess what he listens to in the car even WITHOUT his kids. (Hint.. it’s a soundtrack to a popular kids movie)

Get to know Saskatchewan Roughriders’ quarterback Kevin Glenn in this edition of TMI:

Kristina Costabile: Tell me something no one would know about you.

Kevin Glenn: I’m a pretty handy guy. Some of my friends call me Bob the Builder. I’ve built sofa tables with reclaimed wood and decorative ladders by the fireplace. I bought the wood and made it into a coffee table. I went to the wood place, stained it, sanded it and then I found the stand underneath it. When people go to throw stuff away, I just bring it back to life.

KC: What do you like to do in your free time?

KG: I took one of those classes in college. My major was industrial technology. We took some classes as far as construction management. That’s kind of where I got into it and I’ve been doing it for some years. I own table saws, all kinds of nail guns. People would be like, “a football player owns a nail gun and a table saw?”

KC: You’ve lived in a lot of different places over your CFL career. What city has the best food?

KG: Vancouver has the best sushi. In Hamilton, I went to Toronto a lot and they have a lot of different foods. The worst was probably Montreal. Maybe it was because of the kids. There’s not a lot of kid friendly places that you can go as a family because the food is just different. My kids are adventurous but not that much.

KC: What is the most embarrassing song on your iPhone?

KG: The Sing soundtrack. If you told somebody that a guy that plays football that, they’d be like, ‘what?’ but if you actually listen to the soundtrack, it is a very good soundtrack! I listen to it when the kids are not in the car.

(Editors note: This soundtrack actually is really good.. check it out below!)

KC: What is the last movie you watched?

KG: Fate of the Furious. Last kid movie was Smurfs? (Editors note: this was confirmed by Kevin’s daughter saying ‘yeah!!’ in the background)

KC: If you could have dinner with anyone living or dead, who would it be?

KG: My grandmother on my mothers side and my grandfather on my fathers side because I never got to meet them. That’s something that I’ve always loved to do.

KC: What’s on your pregame playlist?

KG: It changes up. I go a little bit everywhere. I do a little bit of rock and roll, R&B, rap, hip hop, gospel. I don’t really have anything specific. It’s just basically whatever’s current I usually just listen to.

KC: What is your favourite city you’ve lived in?

KG: Vancouver. We were on the beach in White Rock right close to the border. We spent a lot of time in the US. Seattle was an hour and 10 or 15 minutes up the road. It was just really nice with the beach and the sand. Right there in White Rock, right off the water, they have little shops that you could walk up and down, with ice cream parlours, different pubs, it was really nice.
