Doug Flutie With The Ultimate Instagram Comment: The Story Behind The Flutie-Favre Photo

Ok, so this just keeps getting better and better.

Last week the Toronto Argonauts posted (and we reposted) this incredible Throwback Thursday of Toronto Argonauts legend Doug Flutie sitting in the Rogers Centre (then Skydome) stands with a young Green Bay Packers Quarterback (and future Hall of Famer) Brett Favre.

Many have been asking the story behind the photo and we finally tracked it down. On August 16, 1997 the Green Bay Packers played an exhibition game at the Sky Dome against the Buffalo Bills (winning 35-3). The Packers at that time were lead QB Brett Favre and the Argonauts had Doug Flutie at QB in what would eventually be a Grey Cup winning season. It appears when Favre was up in Toronto for the game the two took some time to catch up and have a chat in the stands and luckily a photographer captured the moment.

Even better, we posted the photo on our CFL Instagram Account, asking what those two may be talking about… And well, Doug Flutie himself chimed in to give us an idea!

You can see his comment highlighted below… and well, it’s incredible, maybe the GOAT of all comments? We know Favre was known as a school yard QB and Flutie had the same flare for the dramatic, but we’d love to see Favre try that wide side out also!

No matter what, this is an amazing picture of two incredible QBs from pro football history. An awesome time capsule from the 90s.
