REGINA — The Saskatchewan Roughriders have acquired national offensive lineman Peter Dyakowski from the Toronto Argonauts in exchange for international wide receiver Armanti Edwards.

The two sides announced the deal on Saturday night.

Dyakowski, a 6-foot-5, 320-pound guard, is entering his 11th season after originally being selected by the Hamilton Tiger-Cats in the second round (11th overall) of the 2006 CFL Draft. Through 10 seasons with the Tiger-Cats, the 33-year-old Vancouver native played in 148 regular season games, with 131 starts. He also added ten playoff games and two Grey Cup appearances.

After being released by the Ticats, Dyakowski, a 2012 East Division All-Star and the Ticats’ Most Outstanding Offensive Lineman in 2011, signed with the Toronto Argonauts as a free agent in February.

The deal makes sense for both sides considering the Riders’ depth at receiver and the Argos’ logjam at guard. Edwards, 29, might have been hard-pressed to get on the field for the Riders, who added Duron Carter, Bakari Grant and Chad Owens to an already crowded group of pass-catchers.

The Argos, meanwhile, also have J’Michael Deane, Corey Watman and Tyler Holmes at the guard position.

Edwards, a 5-foot-11, 190-pound, native of Greenwood, S.C., played four games, starting in three, for the Saskatchewan Roughriders last season, registering 19 receptions for 231 yards and touchdown. Prior to signing with the Riders, he spent four seasons in the NFL with the Cleveland Browns, Chicago Bears and the Carolina Panthers, who selected him in the third round (89th overall) of the 2010 NFL Draft.

The Appalachian State product, who converted from quarterback to receiver in 2012 with the Carolina Panthers, caught six passes for 131 yards in 41 NFL games.

Both players are expected to take part in training camp for their new clubs this week. Camps officially open on Sunday for all nine CFL teams.
