TMI: Catch up with Edmonton’s Shamawd Chambers

Edmonton’s Shamawd Chambers wants to be able to teleport if he could have any super power because it’ll help him play football. Seriously.

It actually makes sense if you think about it. Mike Reilly tosses a ball to Shamawd and he immediately teleports to the end zone. Automatic touchdown.

He also plays Clash of Clans – you know, that addictive mobile game that’s almost as popular as Candy Crush? – when he has free time.

Who would he want to be stranded on a deserted island with and what is he watching on Netflix right now?

Learn the answers to all of these questions and more in this edition of TMI!

Kristina Costabile: Tell me something no one knows about you.

Shamawd Chambers: I collect records and vinyls. I try to once a week. I’m trying to find a place in Edmonton to continue it. Last year, I collected maybe 50 vinyls. I got kind of bored when I was in Regina. I have old and new vinyls it just depends on what I see during the day. I have a couple good ones like Frank Sinatra, some old Jackson 5’s, Jimmy Hendrix and then obviously the new things that are coming out recently.

KC: What do you like to do in your free time?

SC: I think I’m going to have a lot more to do in Edmonton. Other than preparing for the week, I play a lot of Clash of Clans, play a lot of PS4 video games and stuff like that. Usually during the season I’m Facetiming friends and family from home. I try my best to multitask but I’m not really good at that either.

KC: Which of your teammates would you want to be stranded on a deserted island with?

SC: Probably none of them. I’m probably much rather not be with a teammate when I’m stranded on an island. If I had to pick someone that I get along with well, either Odell Willis or Adarius Bowman, I get along with them very well. Those guys would be very entertaining to be around.

These moments last a lifetime with my woes!!!!

KC: What are three things you’d bring with you to that deserted island?

SC: Something to hunt with, a lighter for fires and a Beats Pill for music. Actually, can I bring stuff to help me leave? I want tools to be able to build a raft to leave. I’d bring three tools that are essential to building a raft to leave!

KC: What’s on your pre-game playlist?

SC: Obviously Drake, coming from Toronto. Pretty much any music coming out of Toronto. Future. A little bit of Chris Stapleton, he’s a country singer. He used to write a lot of music for people and he’s went into his solo career. He’s awesome. I have a variety of music I listen to, I try not to just keep it urban. I want to hear different things, different sounds. I’m not really a hype guy during game day anyways. I like to be leveled out so I can listen to something that’s actually good.

KC: If you could have dinner with anyone who would it be?

SC: My brother would definitely be someone I’d like to have dinner with.

KC: If you weren’t a football player what would you be doing?

SC: I’d be on TSN on the panel, leading it. (Editors note: Watch out Rod Smith??)

KC: Do you have any superstitions or routines you have to do before a game?

SC: None, to be honest with you. The only thing I do in the morning before a game is make sure I have my coffee in the morning.

KC: What is your favourite football memory?

SC: I can’t say the Grey Cup because it kind of happened so fast but probably after the game and the week after Grey Cup was probably my favourite. Actually, right after the game, the celebration was probably my fondest memory other than the very first game I put my equipment on in grade six.

When the bottles pop!! It’s party time. #champagnepop #championshipweek 🍾🏆🍾🏆🍾🏆🍾🏆🍾 @Rikester13

KC: What are you watching on Netflix right now?

SC: I just finished 13 Reasons Why. Also Master of None! (Editors note: I just finished Master of None too, so good!)

KC: If you could have one super power, what would it be?

SC: That’s tough. There’s so many that you’d like.. (asked a teammate in the background for help) Teleport! That would be pretty cool to be able to go anywhere. I’d just catch a ball and be in the end zone. ‘Just hand to it to me, I’ll score in a second!’
