Venable informs Argos of retirement

TORONTO — Toronto Argonaut linebacker Winston Venable informed the club that he is retiring from football effective immediately. Venable was signed as a free agent on Feb. 14, 2017.

The 29-year-old signed with the Alouettes in 2013 and played his entire four-year CFL career in Montreal. In his rookie season, Venable collected just two defensive tackles and eight special teams tackles in the four games he played in.

He followed up that performance by suiting up in all 18 games for the Als in 2015 and collected 49 defensive tackles, four special teams tackles, one touchdown and one forced fumble.

2015 was a career year for the All-star linebacker, after he collected 103 defensive tackles – good for third in the CFL- five sacks and three forced fumbles.

The Argonauts also announced the signing of linebacker Larry Scott and the retirement of national offensive lineman Sam Narkaj.
