VANCOUVER — Edmonton Eskimos linebacker JC Sherritt‘s season has come to end just after it began. The club confirmed Monday that Sherritt suffered a ruptured left Achilles tendon in Saturday’s contest with the BC Lions.

The star linebacker went down at the start of the second quarter, favouring his left leg, and had to be helped off. Sherritt was all alone in the middle of the field when he suffered the non-contact injury and was seen being tended to on the sideline near his left ankle.

Sherritt is coming off his second-most productive season after racking up 81 total tackles (77 DT) in 17 starts in 2016.

The Esks linebacking corps is already reeling after losing free agent signee and former Toronto Argonaut Cory Greenwood to injury on the first day of training camp.
