Pick ‘Em Marquee Matchup: The rematch of the rematch

Adam Gagnon/CFL.ca

TORONTO — Watching Bo Levi Mitchell and Trevor Harris duel head to head was about as exciting as it gets for a season-opening weekend. In Week 2, the dynamic passers will do it all over again.

Thursday Night Football brings us the rematch of the rematch as the Stampeders and REDBLACKS meet for the third straight outing in a competitive setting dating back to last year’s Grey Cup. Last week, in Ottawa, the offences combined for 853 yards while the Stampeders erased a 14-point deficit in the fourth quarter to force overtime. Four extra possessions solved nothing and the result was a 31-31 tie.

On Thursday, the scene shifts to Calgary where the Stampeders haven’t lost since 2015. But that won’t scare the REDBLACKS, who’ve proven time and again they can handle the CFL’s best.

Like last November, can the REDBLACKS embrace the role of underdog? Or will the Stampeders finally get their revenge after tasting Grey Cup defeat?

It’s another Grey Cup rematch for this week’s marquee matchup. Who are you taking?

Pick Trend

The Stampeders’ dominance at home over the years likely shifts them to clear favourite in this matchup. In the friendly confines of McMahon Stadium, the Stamps went 9-0 last season and 8-1 in 2015 while Bo levi Mitchell is 24-3-0 at home throughout his career.

What’s more, Calgary has beaten Ottawa 48-23, 48-3 and 38-17 (a margin of 134-43) in three head to head meetings at McMahon since the REDBLACKS came into the league in 2014.

While the fans favour the Stamps this week, so do the writers.
