REDBLACKS add recent Rider cut Jonathan Newsome

OTTAWA– The Ottawa REDBLACKS added depth along their defensive line on Friday signing free agent defensive lineman Jonathan Newsome.

Newsome became available Tuesday afternoon when he was let go by the Saskatchewan Roughriders.

The 26-year-old was in his second season with the Riders and recorded an interception and a defensive tackle in his only game against the Winnipeg Blue Bombers on Canada Day.

Newsome played all 18 games for the Green and White in his first CFL season in 2016, recording 27 defensive tackles, six special teams tackles and a pair of sacks.
