Stamps’ offence doesn’t miss beat after Jorden injury

CALGARY — The Calgary Stampeders put on an incredible offensive performance during their 60-1 home victory over the Hamilton Tiger-Cats on Saturday night. While running back Jerome Messam ran for three touchdowns and 91 yards on the night, it was receiver Marken Michel who made the biggest impact for the Stamps on offence.

Michel stepped up in a big way after Calgary’s leading receiver, Kamar Jorden, departed the game in the first half with an injury. Michel went on to lead his team with six catches and 190 yards receiving during the game, including an incredible touchdown and numerous highlight reel plays.

“He’s a guy that locks into his game plan,” Stampeders quarterback Bo Levi Mitchell said after the win. “It wasn’t easy, because KJ has obviously been playing really well, so it hurts to see that happen. But it’s good to see Marken get in there and do what he did.”

Calgary head coach Dave Dickenson was also pleased to see his team’s receiving corps continue to look impressive despite losing Jorden early on.

“We have some good explosive receivers,” Dickenson said after the game. “If they take one guy away, our quarterback’s going to find any open guy.”

Jorden remained out of the game after leaving during the first quarter, but Dickenson sounded optimistic when talking about his top receiver’s injury situation.

“He seemed to jog off the field, but obviously he was sore,” Dickenson said. “He got rolled up on unfortunately, [he’s] having a great season so I’m hoping it’s short term. We’re on a quick turn around, five days, so we’ll have to see. We’ll be smart with it.”
