TORONTO — The BC Lions have signed free agent defensive end Ricky Foley, the team announced Sunday.

Foley, a national from Courtice, Ont., is a three-time Grey Cup Champion and former Most Outstanding Canadian. The 34-year-old was released by the Argos this spring just ahead of his 12th CFL season.

For Foley, his CFL career has come full circle. Foley entered the league with the Lions in 2006 after being drafted in the first round, fourth overall.

In his fourth season with the Lions in 2009, Foley recorded a career-best 12 sacks, earning the nod for Most Outstanding Canadian.

After returning from a stint in the NFL, Foley signed with the Argos in 2010. Two years later, the York University graduate was named the Grey Cup’s Most Valuable Canadian in helping the Argos capture the historic 100th Grey Cup Championship on home turf.

Foley moved back home to Toronto for the second time in his career after being traded to the Argos in 2015. In his last two seasons with the Argos, he recorded 69 tackles and 10 sacks in 32 games.

The Lions, 5-2, are coming off a 30-15 win over Saskatchewan on Saturday. They’ll prepare for a rematch with the Riders on Sunday, Aug. 13 at the new Mosaic Stadium.
