TORONTO — Just like on the field, the quarterback position is critical to your weekly success in TSN CFL Fantasy.
The 10 most expensive players in the game right now are QBs, meaning whoever you choose will cost you close to a quarter of your entire salary cap for the week. Hence, a bad week at the position probably means a bad week for your team.

After a slow start (from a fantasy perspective, strictly speaking), Mike Reilly has justified his early-season value the last few weeks, hitting 30 points in two straight games and 20 points in each of the last three. Reilly’s work is even more impressive considering his short-handed surrounding cast, with injuries to Adarius Bowman, John White, Travon Van and, now, Brandon Zylstra.
For those seeking value at the position, there’s been plenty of it through seven weeks of the season. While no quarterback has averaged more points per game (21.3) than Reilly this season, six other quarterbacks are averaging a minimum of 18.5 points per game — all of whom can be had for between $9,486 (Ricky Ray — although he’s not expected to play this week) and $11,195 (Travis Lulay — also not expected in the lineup).
The 10 leading fantasy quarterbacks can be seen below:
NAME | TEAM | GAMES | PTS | AVG | CURRENT VALUE |
Mike Reilly | EDM | 7 | 149.3 | 21.3 | $14,000 |
Trevor Harris | OTT | 7 | 142.7 | 20.4 | $10,956 |
Ricky Ray | TOR | 7 | 130.2 | 18.6 | $9,486 |
Bo Levi Mitchell | CGY | 7 | 129.2 | 18.5 | $10,700 |
Travis Lulay | BC | 6 | 119.8 | 20.0 | $11,195 |
Kevin Glenn | SSK | 6 | 119.6 | 19.9 | $10,119 |
Matt Nichols | WPG | 6 | 119.2 | 19.9 | $10,926 |
Darian Durant | MTL | 6 | 96.0 | 16.0 | $9,582 |
Zach Collaros | HAM | 6 | 73.9 | 12.3 | $8,471 |
Jonathon Jennings | BC | 4 | 46.8 | 11.7 | $9,712 |
Those looking for cheaper options at quarterback this week could check the bargain bin.
Jonathon Jennings ($9,712) was one of the highest-valued quarterbacks going into the season but an early-season slump followed by an injury led to his salary dropping and Lulay starting. Jennings appears to be the starter this week in what could be a high-scoring game against the Saskatchewan Roughriders.
Zach Collaros ($8,471) is coming off his best game of the season after recording 23.4 points in a loss to the Eskimos. The Ticats’ new-look offence led by June Jones is taking on a struggling Bombers secondary that has allowed 342.3 passing yards per game (third-worst in the CFL) and allowed 34.8 points per game (second-worst in the CFL).
Finally, Jeff Mathews ($5,000) is expected to get the start for the Argos this weekend in place of the injured Ray. There’s some inherent risk with any inexperienced starter but Mathews does play in a pass-happy Argo offence and faces an Alouette secondary allowing the fourth-most passing yards in the CFL (330.8 yards per game).
