Ticats release defensive back Will Hill

HAMILTON — Winds of change continue in Hamilton as the club announced today that it has parted ways with international defensive back Will Hill.

Hill had started all five of the games he dressed in this season for the Tiger-Cats, recording 25 defensive tackles and one quarterback sack and was second on his team in total tackles.

Although the team has yet to make a formal announcement, Ticats head coach Kent Austin briefly addressed Hill’s dismissal at his post-practice media availability on Thursday.

“We did it because we felt it was best for the football team,” Austin said.  “We want guys that understand what it means to be a teammate and to play in a team sport … that is all I will say.”

The Jacksonville native made news in Week 3 when he was suspended for a game after making contact with an official in his club’s 37-20 loss in Saskatchewan.

Hill’s release is the latest in what has been a busy week of changes in Tigertown.  Earlier in the week the club promoted Phillip Lolley to defensive coordinator — taking the place of Jeff Reinbold — and last week added June Jones to the coaching staff as an assistant head coach whose primary focus will be on the ‘cats offence.
