Week 8 Fantasy Recap: Quiet week for the quarterbacks

The Canadian Press

By the narrowest of margins, Saskatchewan quarterback Kevin Glenn topped Edmonton pivot Mike Reilly as the most productive Fantasy player for Week 8.

Glenn’s 320-yard, three-touchdown effort through the air in Sunday night’s surprising 41-8 win over BC gave the Roughriders’ standout 24.6 Fantasy Points, a mere .1 FP better than Reilly, who threw for 362 yards and a pair of touchdowns along with rushing for 51 yards on 11 carries. The difference turned out to be Glenn’s one interception compared to the pair Reilly tossed in the undefeated Eskimos’ victory over Ottawa.

Despite that, Reilly remains the most consistent Fantasy performer as this past week was the fourth straight that he has produced at least 20 Fantasy points.

The pair were the only pivots to cross the 20 FP threshold in Week 8, as Toronto’s Ricky Ray, who had done so five times this season, was sidelined with a shoulder injury, while BC’s Jonathon Jennings managed just 5.1 FP in his first game back in the lineup after missing a month. Jennings, who has yet to eclipse 20 FP this season, threw four interceptions in the loss to Saskatchewan.

Roughriders running back Cameron Marshall had the best week among his peers with a 22.4 FP performance in the win over the Lions. Marshall totaled 104 yards from scrimmage and had a rushing major while adding another through the air. The effort was his best of the season and marked the third time in the last four weeks that Marshall recorded double-digit Fantasy points.

Buoyed by the first touchdown of his career, Edmonton’s LaDarius Perkins finished with 16.7 FP, while Winnipeg’s Andrew Harris tallied 12.8 FP on the strength of his 107 rushing yards. Toronto’s Brandon Whitaker had 12 FP yet, like Harris, was unable to bolster his numbers with a visit to the end zone.

On the other side of matters, Ottawa’s Mossis Madu produced just 2.5 FP in the REDBLACKS’ loss to the Eskimos, who came into the game allowing 5.5 yards per carry. Ticats back C.J. Gable had only five points, with the bulk (3.8) coming as a receiver.

Without BC’s Bryan Burnham and Edmonton’s Brandon Zylstra, the receiving crop was thinned of two top end playmakers, yet Lions receiver Chris Williams had the week’s best effort with 15.8 FP in the loss to the Roughriders. Williams had six catches for 95 yards and his first touchdown in only his second game of the season after missing the first six recovering from last season’s torn ACL. His total edged out Winnipeg’s Darvin Adams’ 14.3 FP, while Fantasy owners got 13.4 points from Ernest Jackson.

Bryant Mitchell of the Eskimos picked up the slack for Zylstra as he put up 11.4 FP, while Saskatchewan’s Duron Carter and Bakari Grant each chalked up 10.8 FP.

Each of the Argonauts’ receivers suffered without Ray in the lineup. S.J. Green had 3.2 FP, Anthony Coombs managed 2.7 FP and Armanti Edwards finished with 1.6 FP.
