Pick ‘Em Marquee Matchup: Battle of the running backs

Johany Jutras/CFL.ca

TORONTO — The league’s leading running backs battle it out this week as the BC Lions take on the Calgary Stampeders.

Jerome Messam and Jeremiah Johnson sit at the top of the CFL in rushing yards and rushing touchdowns – Messam has collected 490 yards and six touchdowns while Johnson has 476 yards and five majors.

The Lions and Stampeders front sevens will have their hands full trying to contain both Messam and Johnson in this week’s Marquee Matchup.

That being said, Calgary will be feeling pretty good about their odds heading into Friday night’s contest as they have won 14-straight games following a week of rest dating back to 2005.

In their last two contests combined, Calgary has scored over 100 points against Hamilton and Toronto. Keeping that scoring going against a tough division rival will be key to moving up the standings and gaining on Edmonton for the top spot.

BC, on the other hand, had a less-than ideal Week 8 performance. Jonathon Jennings struggled to get his footing in his first game since returning from injury and tossed four interceptions. Jennings and his Lions will be looking for redemption and a clean slate this week.

In this week’s CFL.ca Pick ‘Em Marquee Matchup, we’ll see which team will move up the standings in the West. Who are you taking?

Pick Trend

The fans are siding with the Calgary Stampeders but don’t count out the BC Lions.

With one of the most dynamic recieving corps in the CFL – consisting of Emmanuel Arceneaux, Chris Williams, Chris Rainey and Johnson – the Lions can score and change a game in a hurry.
