HAMILTON — The Hamilton Tiger-Cats released three players on Thursday including two defensive backs, the team has announced.

International defensive backs Terrence Frederick and Khalid Wooten are out along with international receiver Gerell Robinson.

Frederick, 27, joined the Ticats part way through the 2017 season after spending his first year with the Winnipeg Blue Bombers.

The Ticats brought in Wooten via trade from Montreal during the off-season. In six games with the Ticats this season, Wooten recorded 26 tackles, one sack and one interception.

The cuts arrive as the team continues to shake up a defence that ranks worst in the CFL in points per game (39.0) and yards per game (451.6) — and also as new defensive coordinator Phillip Lolley puts his stamp on the unit he took over from the departed Jeff Reinebold.

Hamilton plays host to the Ottawa REDBLACKS on Friday night at Tim Hortons Field in a crucial East Division battle.
