Ray to start when Argos host Als Saturday

TORONTO — Ricky Ray is set to return under centre for the Toronto Argonauts after one game on the shelf with a shoulder injury.  Ray left in the second half of Toronto’s Week 7 loss to the Calgary Stampeders and didn’t dress for last week’s 21-9 loss to the Montreal Alouettes,

Ray will provide a much-needed spark to an offence that had both Jeff Mathews and Cody Fajardo at the helm last week.  Despite moving the ball, neither pivot could put a major on the board.

Despite missing last week, Ray still ranks second in the CFL with 2,421 passing yards, on pace to play in Saturday’s rematch with the Als.

Ray took first team reps at this week at practice and on Tuesday, head coach Marc Trestman described his outing as an ‘efficient’ day of work, feeling no limitations in the throws he was able to make.

“It’s feeling a lot better,” Ray explained earlier in the week. “Just having some rest last week and not doing anything other than rehab on it really helped it feel better this week.”

Ray, now in his 15th CFL season, has overcome his fair share of injuries since joining the Boatmen in 2012. In his first season under Trestman, however, the veteran has flourished, throwing for 300 or more yards in six straight games before being injured vs. Calgary.
