Report: REDBLACKS’ Bass granted release following demotion

The Canadian Press

OTTAWA — According to a report from the Ottawa Sun‘s Tim Baines on Friday, the Ottawa REDBLACKS have released international linebacker Khalil Bass.

Bass played in 11 games this season with the REDBLACKS, collecting 39 defensive tackles, one special teams tackle and two sacks.

The 27-year-old was a marquee free agent signing last February. However, over the last little bit, he’s fallen into a backup role on the depth chart as Serderius Bryant starts at WILL and Tank Reed starts at MIKE.

Baines said Bass was unhappy with his reduced role:

Bass was signed as a free agent with Ottawa in February after spending the first two seasons of his career with the Winnipeg Blue Bombers. In two seasons with the Bombers, the 27-year-old played 35 games and tallied 181 defensive tackles, four special teams tackles, nine sacks, three interceptions two touchdowns and five forced fumbles.

The REDBLACKS head to Montreal this weekend to take on the Montreal Alouettes as they fight to stay at the top of the East Division.
