OTTAWA — As the preperation continues in Ottawa for the REDBLACKS’ Week 14 matchup with the Winnipeg Blue Bombers, the status of Drew Tate is becoming a little more clear.
Tate will probably dress for the contest in Winnipeg but is unlikely to start according to TSN.
Already down their starting quarterback in Trevor Harris, the REDBLACKS watch Tate exit Sunday’s win over the Montreal Alouettes with a shoulder/arm injury.
Tate was evaluated Monday and was unofficially listed as week-to-week.
“There’s a chance he could play this week,” REDBLACKS general manager Marcel Desjardins told The Canadian Press on Monday. On whether Tate would start or not, Desjardins said, “I’d say no, especially when it’s a short week, but you never know.”
Tate looked comfortable in his first start in almost a year, completing 21 of 29 passes for 185 yards and a touchdown before exiting the game with an injury in the second quarter on a hit from Montreal DB Dondre Wright.
With Tate on the mend, the REDBLACKS now turn to first-year pivot Ryan Lindley who took when Tate exited. Lindley went 7 of 14 for 76 yards and tossed an interception on his first drive.
“He (Lindley) doesn’t have to be the guy who does everything,” Desjardins told CP. “He just needs to be the guy who distributes the ball and lets the other players make plays.”
