Overtime hero Posey confident Argos will finish strong

HAMILTON — DeVier Posey played a huge role in the Toronto Argonauts’ 43-35 overtime victory in Week 15. The receiver caught seven catches for 104 yards and two touchdowns, but it was the timing of his big plays that made the difference.

Posey made a crucial 31-yard catch on a long third down that helped set up the game tying score late in the fourth quarter. The Double Blue receiver then sent the game to overtime with a 25-yard touchdown catch, and helped win the game in overtime with a 13-yard score.

“We had to have this one,” Posey told TSN after the win. “Coach Trestman’s like all week man we gotta work, we gotta work. We know it’s a 57 plus three game. We just wanted this East man.”

Quarterback Ricky Ray was superb in Toronto’s third-straight victory, finishing with 330 yards passing and three touchdown throws. The veteran quarterback faced heavy pressure throughout the game, and led his team to victory despite taking multiple big hits.

“Rick, he’s one hell of a soldier man,” Posey said after the win. “He takes shots to the mouth and gets up. It’s so inspiring man; I’ll run through a wall for him.”

The Argos are now 7-7 with four regular season games remaining. Posey said the team is focused on building upon their recent success and riding their momentum to a strong finish.

“We want to finish it,” Posey said. “We have a good Saskatchewan Roughriders team coming in next week, and we just want to keep this ball rolling. I think this is our first time this season winning three in a row, and we just want to see if we can keep stacking them.”

The Toronto Argonauts will host the Saskatchewan Roughriders at home next Saturday, and will head to Edmonton to take on the Eskimos in Week 17.
