RotoExperts: Week 17 Fantasy Rankings

The Canadian Press

Brandon Zylstra’s breakout season will help to break the limits of your Fantasy roster if you want the Eskimos’ receiver in your lineup for Week 17. At $8,429, Zylstra is easily the most expensive pass catcher available, as he looks to rack up impressive numbers yet again; this time at the expense of the Argonauts’ secondary. He enters the game having recorded four 100-yard efforts in his last five outings, including a season-best 201 yards in the Thanksgiving Day win over Montreal that also included his fourth major of the season. Zylstra has also put up double-digit Fantasy points over the same span, to pull him ahead of Ottawa’s Greg Ellingson.

Fantasy owners may want to strongly consider adding Ellingson ($7,322) now that the REDBLACKS have Trevor Harris ($11,601) back at pivot. Ellingson benefited greatly from the return of Harris, who connected with his favorite receiver eight times for 149 yards and two touchdowns in Ottawa’s win over BC. Harris is also a strong consideration at quarterback as he has thrown three touchdowns in two of the last three games he finished.

» Week 16 Fantasy Recap: Zylstra steals the show

This week could see Calgary’s Bo Levi Mitchell ($9,768) as a potential underrated Fantasy producer. Not only are the Stampeders coming off an open week, Mitchell may have receivers DaVaris Daniels ($6,286) and Kamar Jorden ($6,076) back off the injured list, giving him two more threats to go along with Marken Michel ($4586) and Marquay McDaniel ($4,527). While the Stamps are feeling good about their passing game, the Roughriders come into Week 17 uncertain as Kevin Glenn ($8,812) hasn’t thrown a touchdown pass in his last three games and comes off a game where he was replaced by Brandon Bridge ($4,998), who threw for 292 yards and two scores. Glenn is ranked eighth at the position despite facing a sixth-rated REDBLACKS pass defence.

Running back is exceptionally deep, with Calgary’s Jerome Messam ($7,074) leading the way. Winnipeg’s Andrew Harris ($8,423), who has held the top spot for much of the season, is third this week, trailing Messam and C.J. Gable ($8,160), with the latter bringing life to the Edmonton ground game after running for 111 yards and a score in his Eskimos debut on Thanksgiving Day.

The RB2 spot is abundant with potential, with the likes of Calgary’s Roy Finch ($5,244) among the pack. Toronto’s James Wilder ($5,827) is in the conversation at RB2 if he’s good to go after sustaining a hit that sidelined him late in last week’s loss to Saskatchewan.

To nobody’s surprise, the Calgary defence is tops, costing Fantasy owners $6,300 to use against the improved Hamilton offence. At $5,172, the Winnipeg D could pay off well, as they face a BC team fighting for their post-season lives while also throwing a league-worst 21 interceptions.
