Week 18 Fantasy Recap: A Reilly, Reilly big day

Fantasy owners who had a combination of Edmonton pivot Mike Reilly, Toronto running back James Wilder and Hamilton receiver/return specialist Brandon Banks were prosperous in Week 18. For those who fit all three into their lineups, the result was beyond expectation.

Reilly’s dramatics in Saturday’s comeback win over BC led to him giving Fantasy owners a week-high 38 Fantasy points. He piled up 397 passing yards with two touchdowns and added two more rushing touchdowns, while the all-purpose skills of Wilder (112 yards rushing, two touchdowns, seven catches, 85 yards) allowed him to rack up 31.7 FP in the Argos’ rally to defeat the Bombers.

Banks scored on a pair of 65-yard plays that kept his hot streak rolling, as he accounted for 29.3 FP in the Tiger-Cats’ victory over the Alouettes. Banks has four straight 100-yard games, as Sunday also marked his first return for a major this season.

The trio were the headliners in a week that also featured a host of receivers hitting double-digits, while only two other running backs joined Wilder in delivering more than 10 FP.

Just one other quarterback joined Reilly in scoring more than 20 Fantasy points. Hamilton’s Jeremiah Masoli recorded 23.6 FP, as he threw for 320 yards and two touchdowns in the win over Montreal. He’s put together three games with more than 20 FP over the last four weeks while becoming a Fantasy-viable pivot.

As productive as Wilder’s week was, only BC’s Chris Rainey and Hamilton’s Alex Green were able to keep pace with him. Rainey finished with 12.5 Fantasy points as he totaled 277 combined yards in the loss to Edmonton, while Green made up for managing just 40 rushing yards with a touchdown while helping the Ticats down the Als.

At receiver, Adarius Bowman had his best game of the season, finishing with 19.6 Fantasy Points while helping the Eskimos outlast the Lions in overtime. Winnipeg’s Weston Dressler returned from the injured list to put up 18.9 FP for the Bombers, while Montreal’s Ernest Jackson and Toronto’s DeVier Posey each had 12.8 Fantasy Points. Bryan Burnham of the Lions had 12.2 FP and Edmonton’s Derel Walker had 11.8 FP.

Week 18 had its share of disappointing outings, headlined by Edmonton receiver Brandon Zylstra, who had just three catches for 32 yards, snapping his four-game streak of 100-yard games. The struggles of Calgary running back Jerome Messam and BC’s Jeremiah Johnson continued as the pair combined for a mere 13.1 Fantasy points. No quarterback had a rougher go at it than Stampeders field general Bo Levi Mitchell, who mustered a season-low 1.4 FP in the loss to the Roughriders.

Montreal’s Tyrell Sutton scored in Sunday’s loss to Hamilton, a major that allowed him to finish with eight FP as he was held to 18 yards on 10 carries and had only one reception. On the flip side of that, Toronto quarterback Ricky Ray came close to hitting the 20 FP mark with his 423-yard outing, finishing with 18.9 Fantasy points.
