Nissan Titan Power Rankings: A new No. 1 in town

The Canadian Press

TORONTO — It’s been 10 weeks since the Edmonton Eskimos ranked first in the Power Rankings but they’re back on top.

The Esks took over the number one spot from the Calgary Stampeders after winning their fourth game in a row in Week 19. Edmonton is getting hot at the right time as the team is now tied in points with the Blue Bombers and has a chance at hosting a playoff game.

Calgary, on the other hand, has dropped two games in a row – and has fallen in the Power Rankings – and will need to find a rhythm quickly before hosting the Western Final.

Where did the rest land? Find out in this week’s Nissan Titan Power Rankings:

Edmonton is getting hot at the perfect time as we head into the final week of the season. Adarius Bowman has finally found his footing in 2017 and the addition of C.J. Gable late in the season proved to be a great move as the Esks head into playoffs. This week, the Eskimos have a chance of taking over second place in the West and hosting a playoff game with a win (and a Winnipeg loss).

The Roughriders remain in the same position as last week thanks to a win over the Montreal Alouettes. This week the Riders host the Eskimos and with a win they will clinch third place in the West.

Calgary dropped their second game in a row as the team’s offence continues to struggle to put points on the board. A team can only be carried by their defence for so long which means Bo Levi Mitchell and co. need to find the spark that helped the team to 13 wins so far this season when they host the Blue Bombers in the final week of the year.

Coming off a Week 19 bye, the Argonauts will be looking for one final win to end the regular season. A win for the Argos and they will host the Eastern Final. It’ll be tough for the Boatmen, however, as they head to BC to take on a Lions team that isn’t going out without a fight.

With a win in Week 19 over the Ticats, the REDBLACKS moved into first in the East Division. Now the team’s fate rests in the hands of the Argos as Ottawa heads out into a Week 20 bye. They will be watching the Argonauts and Lions game closely and if Toronto loses, they will host the East Final.

Injuries are rippling through the Blue Bombers roster – first it was Maurice Leggett, Jamaal Westerman, Darvin Adams and Timothy Flanders. After Week 19, Matt Nichols and Andrew Harris were both added to that list. Winnipeg’s depth will be tested as they head to Calgary to take on the Stampeders this week.

This Week: 7 | Last Week: 7

While the Tiger-Cats are eliminated from the post-season, they still gave the REDBLACKS a run for their money last week. In the last week of the season, will we see depth players get reps? Or will the starting lineup continue to play?

This Week: 8 | Last Week: 8

Jonathon Jennings looked like the Jonathon Jennings we all got to know last season in Week 19 as the pivot tossed for 408 yards and four touchdowns on route to his team’s win over the Blue Bombers. This week the Lions host the Argonauts as they look to play spoiler against a team looking to take over first in the East Division.

This Week: 9 | Last Week: 9

In their final contest of 2017, the Montreal Alouettes head to Hamilton to take on the Tiger-Cats. The Alouettes are another team that could rest their starters and instead play depth guys to get a look towards the future.
