WINNIPEG – Blue Bombers head coach Mike O’Shea has confirmed that quarterback Dan LeFevour will lead the charge for Winnipeg this week when they close out the regular season in Calgary.

With the injury to Matt Nichols, the Blue Bombers will have to rely on their second-string quarterback as they try to solidify second place in the West Division.  A win and the Bombers will host the Western Semi; a loss and they will need an Edmonton loss to keep home field advantage.

Earlier in the week, O’Shea indicated that Nichols would not play as the Bombers ready for the playoffs and he mends an injured leg.

“I would imagine we’re going to hold him out of this one,” Mike O’Shea told CJOB. “We’ve got one more game to play, but we’re in the playoffs and we’d like Matt back for that.

“Whether he can be ready or not, we’re going to make sure we make a good decision.”

LeFevour stepped into last week’s contest after Nichols was hurt and third-string quarterback Dominique Davis couldn’t spark the offence. He completed five of 12 passes for 42 yards and two interceptions in relief.

LeFevour has been used mostly in short yardage situations for the Blue Bombers this season, rushing 41 times for 115 yards and six touchdowns. He’s also added 80 yards and two interceptions through the air.

The decision to go withe LeFevour could be based — at least partially — on experience and the limited reps Davis has seen during his CFL tenure.

Before joining the Bombers, the 30-year-old had spent time with the Toronto Argonauts, Montreal Alouettes and Hamilton Tiger-Cats.

Last season with the Argos, LeFevour played in eight games passing for 779 yards, six touchdowns and six interceptions. He also rushed 41 times for 155 yards.

He joined the Alouettes in 2015 but his season was ended because of injury on the very first series of the first game of the season.

LeFevour spent three seasons with the Tiger-Cats prior to his stint in Montreal and passed for 1,680 yards, five touchdowns and six interceptions. He also added 631 yards and 11 touchdowns on the ground.
