Audible: Nichols misses practice due to birth of his child

WINNIPEG — The Matt Nichols saga continued Friday with the Bombers starting quarterback missing practice.

With Dan LeFevour taking all the first-team reps and Nichols nowhere to be found, many had assumed he had had a setback in preparation for Sunday’s Western Semi-Final.

That was not the case, however. Nichols appeared in the final half hour of practice sporting a jacket and toque and getting a number of hugs and congratulatory handshakes from teammates. Rightfully so as it was learned shortly thereafter that Nichols and his wife, Ali, welcomed their daughter Parker.

Head coach Mike O’Shea did not confirm or deny after practice if Nichols would be ready to roll when the team hits the field on Sunday.

Nichols’ status was still unclear after Thursday’s closed practice although O’Shea said that Nichols “looked good.”

Flanders goes down in practice

Winnipeg Blue Bombers running back Timothy Flanders went down near the end of Friday’s practice with what looked to be a lower leg injury.

He remained down for a few minutes before being helped off by trainers but no word yet on his status.  He was unavailable to media afterwards.

O’Shea told members of the media that there was no update on Flanders but did say, “I think he will be fine.”

More updates to come…
