MONTREAL — DeVone Claybrooks will remain as the defensive coordinator in Calgary after many considered him one of the front-runners for the open head coaching post in Montreal, according to TSN’s Dave Naylor.

Rumours of Claybrooks’ potential move began during Grey Cup week last month after spending the last two seasons at the helm of the Stampeders defence, taking over for Rich Stubler

The Alouettes are in the hunt for a new head coach after general manager Kavis Reed fired Jacques Chapdelaine last September and took over the role on an interim basis.

Despite a late-season slump, Claybrooks’ Stampeder defence finished tops in the West Division in a number of major statistical categories, including points allowed and touchdowns allowed.
