VANCOUVER –The BC Lions Football Club today announced that they have acquired international running back Brandon Rutley from the Montreal Alouettes in exchange for future considerations.

Rutley had spent the past four seasons as a member of the Alouettes after originally signing with the Hamilton Tiger-Cats in 2012. The San Jose State grad has appeared in 35 career regular season games recording 248 carries for 1,243 rushing yards with four touchdowns.

“This is a critical part of the offseason as we work towards creating a high level of competition and depth at every position on the field,” Lions GM Ed Hervey said in a statement. “Acquiring Brandon today is a prime example of that focus and we look forward to seeing what he can bring to our team.”

In addition to his 5.1-yard career rushing average, Rutley has also hauled in 75 receptions for 722 yards and five majors along with another 460 yards on 21 kickoff returns.
